- At the last meeting the following diagram was used to represent the structure
- of the layers within the CAM.
-
- +-----------------------+
- | OSD Driver | OSDCB Operating System Dependent Control Block
- +-----------------------+
- | Transport Module | TCB Transport Control Block
- +-----------------------+
- | SCSI Interface Module | CCB CAM Control Block
- +-----------------------+
- | Protocol Hardware | CDB Command Descriptor Block
- +-----------------------+
-
- Dal Allan suggested the Transport module is the correct place to include a
- routing capability for truncated CCBs which contain generic requests that are
- not SCSI-specific. The reaction dominated the morning discussion. Much of the
- concern expressed was based on a misunderstanding that suppliers of CAM-
- compliant software and microcode would have to support interfaces other than
- SCSI, and provide generic to specific interface translation.
-
- Rick Tewell volunteered to prepare a document which described the routing
- function and actions required of a Transport Module, and asked that anyone
- with ideas on the subject either call him at 407-869-6700 or leave a message
- on the SCSI BBS (316-636-8700).
-
- The meeting progressed much better when the discussion moved away from
- philosophical debate and on to technical issues:
-
- Once the concept behind Shishir's initialization procedure was understood
- there was general enthusiasm for adopting it. Bob's proposal on the handling
- of target functions was also accepted.
-
- Judy and Fred are to prepare another revision of their submittals based on
- constructive criticism of their CHS and DOS OSD proposals respectively.
-
- Improptu presentations were also made:
-
- Greg Slaughter: Resource allocation issues
- Jim McGrath: Justification for working group on embedded bus extensions
- Clint Ballard: Alternative diagram of interaction between CAM layers

- Quantum is hosting the next meeting of the CAM Committee on March 8 at the
- Sheraton Silicon Valley East in Milpitas (408-943-0600). Room rates are $80.
- When making reservations, mention QUANTUM/ANSI/CAM.
-
- Tracy Murray will be holding a pre-meeting on the OS/2 OSD on March 7. Watch
- the SCSI BBS (316-636-8700) for details on when and where.
-
- Jim McGrath will be holding a post-meeting on AT-bus extensions for CAM on
- March 9 at the Quantum facility next door to the Sheraton.
